Ben Roberts is an innovative voice in contemporary art, working at the intersection of creative practice, research, social and political engagement. As a curator, he has significant experience leading visual arts organisations in the UK (Brighton CCA; Artists' Research Centre) alongside exhibition making including the first UK solo presentations for Katharina Wulff (2020); Bill Lynch (2022); Billie Zangewa (2023). Roberts has curated exhibitions and programmes at major public institutions across the UK (Camden Arts Centre; Modern Art Oxford, ICA London) while also commissioning art for the public realm ranging across both sculpture and performance including new work by Serena Korda, London (2013); Hamish Fulton, Oxford (2015), Alexandre da Cunha, Brighton (2022) and Helen Cammock, Eastbourne (2023). Roberts is a recognised editor, publisher and broadcaster including numerous artists publications (Simon Faithfull, 2013; Becky Beasley, 2018); academic publications (How to make an image of something you’ve never seen, Grand Parade Press 2019) and podcast series including the Artists’ Museum featuring Anthony Gormley, Laura Ford and Simon Periton and the Podcast Lunch with… including conversations with Sophie J Williamson, Languid Hands and Kerry Campbell.

Alongside curatorial and cultural leadership, Roberts holds a number of governance and advisory roles. Since 2017 he has been Co-chair of the Board at Cubitt Artists, he was on the Soho House Art Selection Committee (Brighton House 2020); the Selection committee for the Vision Forum Research Group Universitet Linköpings, Sweden (2020); and sat on the Artist’s Pension Trust, Curatorial Selection Committee, Europe (2017).

Over the last 10 years he has both taught and lectured internationally including at University California, Berkley; Central St Martins UAL London; Royal Academy Schools London and TENT Rotterdam.

He remains Director of the Artists’ Research Centre and is currently working on a range of exhibitions and projects including a public art commissions in Brighton, an audio performance commission series and a new podcast focusing on the political, financial, social and creative future of art launching in Autumn 2024.
